Blight and Bloom; a Ronin’s Tale

‘Blight & Bloom: A Ronin’s Tale’ is a single-player game that blends roguelike features, puzzle-solving, and platforming. The storyline follows an exiled mushroom knight returning to confront a mysterious corruption spreading across the land. Gameplay emphasizes both combat strategy and puzzle interaction, complemented by themes of ecological crisis and personal redemption.

My primary roles in this project were as the level and environment designer and artist, and as the music and audio designer.

I built all level maps from beginning to end, which included greyboxing, landscaping and foliage, lighting and particle effects, environmental art and decoration, and sourcing asset packs. I also implemented some basic gameplay and narrative features using Blueprint Scripting.

I composed, recorded and edited the track ‘Hymn of her Highness’ appearing in Level 2 with production by Robert Logan and selected and edited the other tracks which feature in the project. I also wrote, recorded, edited and implemented the exposition voiceover in the introduction.

This project was built in Unreal Engine 5 for the Digital Studio Practice module at Kingston University.
